6 Myth About Non-Native Bilingualism

MYTH #1

Your child will learn your mistakes.

FALSE: Their brains filter out your non-native mistakes by prioritizing consistent, fluent input from the world around them.

MYTH #2

Bilinguals speaking later

FALSE: they may have smaller vocabularies in each language individually, larger in total, which can sometimes create a false impression of delayed sentence formation.

MYTH #3

You can't bond in your non-native language

FALSE: Children mirror inner emotional energy. When you channel love, they associate your words with that warmth, asking for them until they become your shared bond.

MYTH #4

Kids need to listen a lot & they'll eventually end up speaking

FALSE: You need to push the child to speak and not allow long silent periods or using the community language can become a habit.

MYTH #5

OPOL doesn't work

FALSE: While it requires more effort from one parent, with the right amount of exposure, intensionality and external help, OPOL does works.

MYTH #6

Starting after age 3 is too late

FALSE: Starting after 3 is very different from starting from birth. It requires other adjustments but it is not late at all.

Frequently Asked Questions?

Do I get direct acces to Celia's Consultations?

Yes. When you purchase this course, you’ll receive direct access to Celia’s Consultation Waiting List, 20% off your first consultation, and an extra 20% discount (40% total) if you’re one of the first ten people to join The Raising Bilinguals in Your Non-Native Language Route course.

What makes this course different from other courses?

I believe what makes my course different is that it starts by taking you on an inner journey towards healing your own prejudices and insecurities around the language you want to speak with your children, while helping you integrate it naturally into your life so those first stages of raising bilingual children do not feel strange, forced, or emotionally disconnected.

From that foundation, the course walks you through the basics of bilingualism and helps you understand how much English is truly needed at home for bilingualism to become ACTIVE, while also helping you recognize whether the doubts you experience come from your actual English level or from a deeper emotional disconnection with the language itself. The course then closes by giving you tools and support for the moments when you feel like giving up, switching back to the majority language, or stopping the use of English at home altogether.

I have had one on one cunsultation and made a family language plan before. Should I do this?

Definitely, apart from teaching you how to DIY your family language plan, this course also addresses the emotional side of bilingual parenting and includes a full module explaining the science behind language acquisition for parents, with examples from my own journey raising bilingual daughters.

However, if your family has already been working with a coach for six months or longer, please contact me at hello@fullybilingual.org so I can guide you more effectively.
